Long story short: To create a YouTube channel, go to this link. Click on Create a New Channel. Choose a name for your channel. Hit Create. Done.
We spend a lot of time on YouTube. Be that watching funny cat videos, latest music videos or learning a programming language! And you always subscribe to your favorite channels. So that you can stay updated with their new videos.
Did you know that these channel owners make money from your views? And not just side money, they make living from this passive income. For instance, Felix Kjellberg (you may know him as PewDiePie) has made around $15 million in 2016.
So ask yourself. Do you want to lie down on the couch watching Chris Monroe kiss girls, or go out there and get some (money?). Creator or consumer, the choice is yours.
Did you choose to be a creator? Awesome. Keep following me. Even if you don’t know a shit about making videos on YouTube, I promise you’ll be running a successful channel by the end of this tutorial series.

So, let’s take our first step towards a successful youtube channel. Let’s create a YouTube channel.
Check if you already have a channel.
Most of YouTube users already have a channel unknowingly! Because YouTube generally prompts you to create a channel when you first-time login to YouTube using your Gmail account. But most probably that channel is personal.
While you can upload videos from a personal channel, I’ strongly suggest you create a brand channel. In the next few steps, I’m gonna show you how to do that.
Create a brand channel
- First of all, login to YouTube with your Google account, if you haven’t already.
- Now go to this link.
- You’ll see a list of your channels.
- Click the plus button that says Create a New Channel.
- In the next page, you’ll be asked to enter a Brand account name. This will be your channel’s name too.
- After entering the desired name, click Create.
Voila! You’ve created a new youtube channel! Now let’s set up your channel.
Add a channel description
This suggests what your channel is about. Here you can describe your channel in detail. Write what kind of video your channel publishes, how can people contact you and stuff like that. Adding a channel description is really important because it can help people finding your channel.
Add a channel icon
Your channel needs a DP too! In My Channel page, click the pencil symbol on the channel icon. A dialogue box will pop, click on the Edit button. You’ll be redirected to the About Me page of your brand account.
Upload a photo. After that crop it according to your needs. Click on Done. Return to your channel. You may not instantly notice the change as it takes quite a few moments to refresh the cookies.
To make it appear instantly you can clear your Cached images and files (On Chrome go to History > Clear browsing data > tick Cached images and files). Or while you’re on the My Channel page, hit Ctrl+F5 repeatedly and rapidly (may not work always).
Add a channel art
Now add a channel art to your channel. Go to My Channel. Click the Add channel art button. Or click the pencil icon in the top right corner and select the Edit channel art option. You’ll be asked to upload a photo.
If you’re a good photoshopper then create a photo that has the width of 2560 and height of 1440. Or you can also utilize websites like Fotor to create stunning photographic arts! After your picture is ready, upload it. You can also crop the photo if you want.
Alternatively, if don’t want to use any custom channel art, there are some premade photos available in the Gallery tab.
- Did you know? You can remove video background using your Android smartphone!
Upload your first video!
Now you’re ready to upload a video to your new youtube channel. Simply, click the upload button in the top navigation bar (check top right corner).
Add a title to your video. Describe your video a bit. Add some relevant tags. Choose a thumbnail for your video. That’s it! When the uploading and processing are finished click on the Publish button.
Become a star!
You’ve taken your first step towards becoming a YouTube superstar. Now it’s time to grow your channel. In the next articles of this YouTubing series, I’ll share with you some strategies which you can utilize to make your channel bigger and increase your views.
